How These Measurements Work

The numerical coefficients below are transparent The Workspace Pro heuristics, not OSHA formulas. They turn standing height into estimated starting points; the displayed ranges encourage individual adjustment.

  • Standing desk height = standing height × 0.55, with a ±1 in adjustment range
  • Sitting desk and keyboard height = standing height × 0.405, with a ±1 in range
  • Chair seat height = standing height × 0.25, with a ±0.5 in range
  • Monitor top height while seated = standing height × 0.70, with a ±1 in range
  • Monitor distance = standing height × 0.33, limited to 18–28 in, with a ±2 in range inside those limits

For posture checkpoints, see OSHA's Computer Workstations eTool, including its current guidance for chairs and monitors. OSHA notes that no single posture or component arrangement fits everyone.

Important: These estimates are educational starting points, not medical advice or an individual fitting. Body proportions, footwear, equipment, vision, mobility, and health needs can change a comfortable setup. Adjust for comfort and neutral posture; consult a qualified clinician or ergonomics professional for pain, injury, disability, or specialized needs.

The diagram and result rows read the same tested height outputs. They are adjustable starting ranges—not a diagnosis or a promise of one perfect posture.
